Academic Preparation: Coach Zon Thompson received his B.S. in Athletic Administration with emphasis in coaching from St. John’s University (Jamaica, NY). Most recently, Zon attained a Masters in Sport Psychology from Capella University (Minneapolis, MN) and a second Masters in Management of Arts in Organizational Management (MAOM) from University of Phoenix (Phoenix, AZ).  Thompson completed the Master Level, Sport Psychology Course in the American Coaching Effectiveness Program and the 3rd edition, Instructors Level of Coaching Principles from Human Kinetics.  Coaching Readiness: Coach Thompson served one season as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at South Mountain Community College (Phoenix, AZ) with coaching responsibilities of training, scouting, recruiting, player development, video editing and bench coaching, all while acquiring teaching certification in the Arizona Community College System in Business and Physical Education.  Zon is a Certified Secondary Educator in Physical Education. Coach Thompson attained certification as a Speed, Agility & Quickness (SAQ) Trainer from National Endurance Sports Training Association (NESTA), and has acquired certification as a Bigger, Faster, Stronger (BFS) strength and conditioning coach. As a foundation, Zon completed the National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS) training in Fundamentals of Coaching.
Over the years through academic discipline, Zon has developed a trained eye to detecting tendencies, flaws and errors that minimize performance and reduces players game time. Coach Thompson understands the business and marketing side as well as the human and psychological side of coaching. An expert in mental toughness development, Zon relies on personal and practical experience, graduate studies, applied research and sport psychology principles that are vital to performance enhancement.    Playing Experience: Coach Thompson played basketball and ran track at the College of DuPage (Glen Ellyn, IL: 25 miles West of Chicago). With dreams of playing for Coach Ray Myer and Jim Molinari at DePaul University, Thompson was presented a scholarship to SJU in Track & Field, an opportunity that prepared him for Olympic aspirations.While at SJU, Zon served as a basketball manager when not competing in Big East competition. Zon valued his opportunity to observe Coach Lou Carnesecca’s closed practices, where he studied coaching tactics, strategies and players’ performance.  Through relationships, Zon was afforded the opportunity to play extensive pic up ball in private settings with the likes of Mark Jackson, Jason Williams, Chris Mullen, Walter Berry, Willie Glass and Shelton Jones to name a few. The next best experience one could have for not being on the team.
After graduating from St. John's, Zon pursed Olympic endeavors full-time (1992-2000), where training and competition took him to California and Arizona.  Zon trained under the tutelage of Olympic Development Coach  Dr. Don Chu. Zon's Olympic pursuits ended in 2000 with personal accomplishments in the high jump of 7'3", 50' in the triple jump and a PB of 49.8 in the quarter mile. Zon was a defensive specialist in Junior College basketball and a three-year varsity starter in high school with Blue Chip recruitment status. Coaching Experience: Zon’s coaching career took off in 2000 and is deeply rooted in academic preparation coupled with personal and practical experience. For the past 15 years, Coach Thompson has served as the head varsity girls basketball coach where he was responsible for managing the daily functions of three teams (freshman, JV and varsity) working with mentor, Bob Kloppenburg, to build a sound structured program with accomplishments outlined on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/profile/preview?vpa=pub&locale=en_US
